Abstract
Dance Documentation in the Digital Age ×

This study explores the possibilities and issues of NFT for dance records, setting preservation, exchange value, and the ethics of representation as its main agenda. The methods are literature analysis and case study. The discussion holds that NFT, as a non-fungible token, has the technical capacity to secure both authenticity preservation in dance documentation and commercial viability. In particular, from the standpoint of scarcity, NFT amplifies the aesthetic value of works and supports creators through rights protection and revenue sharing, indicating considerable industrial potential. However, sustained examination of the risks of legal disputes is required. In conclusion, NFT can provide an opportunity for an ecological transition of dance archives and has utilitarian value as a community token that advances the publicness and shareability of records. Therefore, even with ongoing technological developments such as AI, continued discourse on dance NFT is necessary.

Abstract
The Pensive Image in Minamimura's Scored in Silence ×

This study, drawing on Rancière's concept of the 'pensive image' examines the deconstruction of the medial boundaries of dance and the sensory limitations of life as depicted in Minamimura's Scored in Silence. The ‘pensive image’ does not focus on one side of the dichotomy, but rather on creating a new arrangement by connecting the incompatible elements in a new way. Referring to the concept of ‘pensive image’, this study examins the meaning of Minamimura's one-person performance, Scored in Silence, by dividing it into ‘spoken visual sound’ and ‘haptic vibration’. I suggest that the process of expressing the narrative through the deaf performer in the work mixes the identities of fine art media and opens up the possibility of new interpretation through the individual senses of the audience.

Abstract
Exploring Design Alternatives to Build Electronic Dance Culture Knowledge Map of Korea Intangible Cultural Heritage ×

This study is the first step to build electric culture map in advanced form with the topic of korea intangible cultural heritage dances. It aims to search for design methods for electric culture knowledge map. In order to achieve the objectives of the study, the present status of electric cultural knowledge map design methods was researched. After identifying the problems and systems of cultural heritage from Cultural Heritage Administration, the directions of electric cultural knowledge map design were suggested. As a result of study, the electric cultural map attracted interest and attention from domestic academic circle since ECAI started in 1996. And then it has expanded to humanities, geography, history, folklore, etc. Accordingly, the development of useful electronic cultural map was required as a new form of dance history and research tools in the field of dance. Second, as a result of reviewing the cultural heritage map from Cultural Heritage Administration, the cultural heritage map reached the current advanced level by building nation-designated cultural heritage information with electric cultural map over about 10 years since 2002. It also provides with movies, photos, monographs, etc. visually. However, the vast amount of troubles was found from search index, types of cultural heritage, location expression, distribution, information error, etc. They are the errors which occurred in the middle of building and classifying a great deal of data. Classifying system of easy search and multi-functionality was required. Third, the korea intangible cultural heritage suggested as problem recognition, electric cultural knowledge map of dance targeted only intangible cultural heritage dance to improve information provision. Linking to professional academic information like paper, it provides integrated professional knowledge, which is a dynamic content. Therefore, according to designed system, area classification and input guidelines were suggested as examples. Virtual map was realized to identify the potential to build electric cultural knowledge map of dance.

Abstract
Thinking Again about the work of SongBeom Art’s Propensity : Newspaper Data in the 1940s and 1970s ×

One modern dancer at the forefront of the art is SongBeom. Numerous studies have considered his life and work activities. However, an error exists, citing incorrect records. This research reconsiders the records of newspaper news organizations working on the agencies. SongBeom was established in the National Dance Company and played a major role in the 1962 writing style. Meanwhile, he demonstrated creative experimentation in Korean dance, helping to create a new framework. Paper records show that he entered the world of dance as an opportunity during a decisive time. He demonstrated endless enthusiasm for show. Not only can we check his newspaper records to clarify the title and year, we now can also consider his work and identify the notations. Performance on a performance advertising, unlike these days. Newspaper articles still contained some errors, but data are sound in terms of the work years. Even though he gross change in his microscopic, even if we approach Chuminsaeng can check the newspaper. It's a dance thing of a time of his activities through to become an opportunity to read the flow.

Some Suggestions on Documentation for Performing Arts

공연예술의 기록에 관한 제언

Abstract
Some Suggestions on Documentation for Performing Arts ×

Expressions of literature or fine art create work that leaves a distinct record. By comparison, the performing arts never create work that remains afterward. Performance is a momentary art shown only in the present, and it is never affected by anything after the show. Performing arts are solely present at the time and place of a performance, making it practically impossible to preserve and store the work. In fact, maintaining and preserving the actions performed on scene has become an unresolved question in the world of performing arts. In order to maintain and preserve such moments, artificial interventions are essential, such as taking photographs or making videos. This paper aims to discuss some theoretical issues that should be taken into account in the process of documenting the performing arts. This paper will first discuss the authenticity of performance in terms of the object of documentation. Authenticity is a concept related to the identity of work. It will continue by examining Margolis’s theory of arts before exploring suitable media to record performances, such as records, body, memory and repertoire. Lastly, this paper will raise a question as to how to reflect aesthetic elements that need to be considered along with other factors in performance documentation. Ultimately, this paper suggests that performance documentation should begin to recognize the gap between performance and record. Such an approach should integrate ethnography and narrative.

Research into the Creation Process of a Dance Work: Focused on the “Proprioceptive Sense”

Abstract
Research into the Creation Process of a Dance Work: Focused on the “Proprioceptive Sense” ×

This paper analyzes the performance of “Connected” by focusing on the proprioceptive senses. Presented at Ewha Woman’s University Performance Hall 1, “Connected” was performed based on ballet movements and characteristics of post-modern dance and somatics. This research adopted a practice-based research methodology and followed five steps: research design → concept formation → composition and practice → performance and analysis → examination of the research findings. The researcher videotaped practice sessions and kept a journal of proceedings during the study. In order to analyze the dance work thoroughly, the researcher explored the role that an audience’s visual sense plays in a ballet performance as well as the performer’s senses in post-modern dance. The researcher looked inward with the concept of proprioceptive senses in somatics in order to analyze the researcher’s own ballet performance. The findings based on “Connected” can be summarized as follows. First, after stimulating senses in the first part of the practice, the researcher had a more delicate understanding of the soma. As the researcher gained more knowledge about one’s soma, including contraction and relaxation levels and range of motion, the researcher felt more comfortable, focusing more on expressing oneself. Second, the routine and habitual movements felt different because the researcher was dancing according to one’s feelings. The researcher was able to focus more on the performance’s qualitative aspects, indulging in dancing and performing more sensuously, rather than focusing on the quantitative factors, the mere connecting of different moves. Finally, the researcher was able to dance with more freedom when trying to stimulate the proprioceptive senses while remaining conscious of the audience. Rather than practicing and performing routinely and putting too much emphasis on the audience’s perceptions, the researcher moved with more freedom. This research demonstrates that stimulating the proprioceptive senses of the researcher was essential to the dancing. Through proprioceptive sense stimulation, dancers may produce more comfortable and seamless moves, which may also result in a higher quality performance. In this regards, this research suggests that performers can enhance the quality of their performances when they thoroughly understand their own soma through proprioceptive sense stimulation.

Abstract
An Exploration on the Principles and Development of a Program of Movement Education based on Somatics ×

Human beings think, study, and develop creativity and character somatically. However, at present, many people are pressured and stressed; as a result, they have lost this sense. The purpose of this study is to explore the principles and develop a program of movement education based on somatics through the analysis of literature on somatics as a practice plan for the recovery of the vitality of soma. First, the principles of movement education based on somatics are as follows: The goals of education are atony, awareness, awakeness, and abundance. The contents of education are soma and movement responding to temporal, spatial, and relational factors. The methods of education are composed of verbal methods leading to first-person experience, including description, comparison, explanation, and questions, and non-verbal methods leading to second-person experience, including touch. Second, the program of movement education based on somatics was as follows: The “Soma 4A program” was developed to reflect the principles described above. Specially, three programs were actualized with a focus on characteristics like totality, verticality and confrontation, balance and horizontality, and movement. Finally, we recommend implementing and evaluating this program, developing various programs, expanding movement education based on somatics, and connecting this to dance education. We hope that this study will represent a small steppingstone in movement research–based somatics, and that it will help dancers and ordinary person to understand the soma through the provision of valuable data.

Abstract
A Study on Values and Utilization of Dance Archives for Represented Dance Focusing on Yeongseongje and Sajikdaeje ×

Dance archives help researchers not only to understand performances, but also to promote related studies. Recently, dance archives have been produced and managed in some performances, although organizations producing and managing dance archives are still limited. Studies on the values and utilization of dance archives have to be carried out to understand and utilize dance archives. This study compared archives-Seongdanhyangui and Sajikseo Uigwe-and performances-Yeongseongje (2015) and Sakjikdaeje (2014)-to study the values and utilization of dance archives. The paper demonstrated that the archives value and cultural resources have inherent value in dance archives; it also analyzed cases of using its values.

Abstract
A Study on the Patterns of Documentary Records of Kyoukunshou (教訓抄) Observed through Batou (抜頭) ×

This article investigates the documentary recorda of Kyoukunshou (教訓抄, a musical book of gagaku) focusing on Batou (抜頭, one of the dances to belong of the Togaku). The record of Batou in Kyoukunshou has three following characteristics. First, it describes the history of Bugaku (舞楽, Japanese court dance) in such a manner that a comprehensive understanding of Batou from the its origin to its transfer and acceptance to Japan, actual performance, and transmission is possible. Second, it enables the grasping of theory, practice, and handing down situations of performances at a glance, and particularly in regard to the handing down of the performance, very detailed records have remained such that you can view the handing down chart of the tradition. Third, Japan's unique records, such as new motifs different from those found in Chinese records, are also found. This can be said to represent the process of transformation that has occurred while Tougaku (唐楽, style of gagaku based on Tang-era Chinese music and ancient Asia song and dance) from China has been settled down as Tougaku of Japan. Grasping the aspect of literature records in Kyoukunshou is like building a foundation for researching arts books written later. This study is significant in that it provided a clue for the study of Japanese Art books.
