Abstract
An Exploration of the Artistic Sociological Aspects of Choi Seung-hee's Dance Philosophy ×

This study aims to identify the artistic sociological aspects of Choi Seung-hee’s dance philosophy by comparing and analyzing it with Arnold Hauser’s theory of the sociology of art. As a research method, I analyze Choi Seung-hee’s magazine article, focusing on “The Korean People and Dance”, and examine conceptual similarities with Hauser’s theory. The findings reveal strong correlations between the two theories, particularly in the historical and social natures of art, the concept of alienation, the dual structure of popular and fine arts, and the critique of formalism. Considering the socio-cultural context of the 1930s, this study suggests that Hauser’s theory may have influenced Choi Seung-hee’s dance philosophy. This research presents an integrated approach combining practice and theory and emphasizes the need for further in-depth studies on the sociological aspects of Choi Seung-hee’s dance philosophy.

Abstract
The Impact of Social Network Service-based Communication of Korean Traditional Dancers on Organizational Commitment of Dance Companies ×

The purpose of this study was to explore the impact of SNS-based communication on organizational commitment among Korean dancers. The collected data were analyzed using SPSS Ver. 29.0, employing frequency analysis, exploratory factor analysis, reliability analysis, correlation analysis, and multiple regression analysis to derive the research findings. SNS communication significantly influenced all three types of organizational commitment: continuance commitment, normative commitment, and affective commitment. Specifically, clear responses and empathy had the most substantial impact on continuance commitment, while information sharing and empathy were most influential for normative commitment. Affective commitment was primarily affected by clear responses. The study also revealed that excessive use of SNS could have a negative impact by fostering comparison and competition, which could hinder organizational commitment. Therefore, dance organizations should develop strategies to enhance positive communication through SNS while minimizing its negative effects.

Abstract
A Study on the Community Life and Aesthetic Consciousness Embedded in Su-yeong Ji-shin Bal-gi ×

The purpose of this study is to explore the communal life and aesthetic consciousness inherent in Su-yeongJi-shin Bal-gi and re-evaluate its value as a form of folk culture. The main discussion of this paper focused on folk culture and folk dance as a communal cultural element through the analysis of literature and academic materials related to Su-yeong Ji-shin Bal-gi. In addition, photographs taken at the 49th Suyeong Traditional Folk Arts Festival were used as research data to describe and analyze the dance movements. As a result of the study, the aesthetic consciousness of the East, which prioritizes naturalness, and that of the West, which emphasizes orderliness, are both embedded in the ritual. Additionally, the ritual embraces the dance principle of Jeongjungdong represented in Korean traditional dance, the communal dance seen in Madang, and the subject-object unity between performers and spectators.

Abstract
An Exploration of Ethical Situations that Field Workers May Face in Dance Art Work with Artificial Intelligence ×

The purpose of this study is to explore the ethical situations that field workers can face in dance art work with AI, especially focusing on the 'body alienation' situation of dancers. The study focused on literature research on AI and body alienation, semi-structured one-on-one phone interviews involving engineers and dancers who have experienced related work in the actual field, and structured one-on-one written interviews involving choreographers. As a result, we discovered situations and types of body alienation that can occur, such as ‘human body instrumentalized for AI learning’, ‘body alienation due to differences in performance capabilities between humans and AI’, and ‘body alienation due to capital and power’. The body alienation that can occur at this time includes not only issues of portrait rights, intellectual property rights, and copyright, but also personal privacy, labor alienation, psychological alienation, and biological alienation. It is expected that this study will be used in various ways as a basic study examining ethical factors that should be considered in the workplace of dance art using AI.

Abstract
The Effect of Dance Emotional Expressiveness on Emotional Intelligence and Performance Engagement in Chinese University Dance Majors ×

Dance majors' dance emotional expressiveness is based on their body-emotion integration, which impacts their level of performance engagement. Through training to improve the expression of dance emotions, dance majors learn to identify and express their feelings. In this study, 507 Chinese majors in contemporary dance were asked to evaluate the relationship between dance emotional expressiveness and performance participation using emotional intelligence. The findings demonstrated a substantial relationship between dance emotional expressiveness and emotional intelligence, as well as a significant relationship between emotional intelligence and performance engagement. Furthermore, it was discovered that the relationship between dancers' emotional expressiveness and performance involvement was mediated by emotional intelligence. This study is important because it sheds light on the relationship between Chinese contemporary dance majors' performance engagement, emotional expressiveness, and emotional intelligence. This information will help develop better teaching strategies and curricula.

Abstract
The Formulation of Modern Dance in Busan During the Liberation Period ×

This study discusses the early modern dance formation in Busan during the liberation period 1945-1950. The study discusses its historical significance and aesthetic value from a contemporary perspective. For this study, a literature review on previous research and newspaper articles was used as a research method in order to examine modern dancers’ works and their educational activities during the liberation period. Modern dances in Busan that supported a new way of creating stage performances were influenced by western cultures and “New Dance.” During the liberation period, modern dancers in Busan expressed national identity and individuality through dance while promoting dance education as the human experience. Park Yongho and Park Yirang held dance concerts to show their own creative dance pieces, which were different from previous dance performances displayed in Busan. The liberation period was important for dance history in Busan as it was the beginning of establishing modern dance in that area. Also, modern dances during that time were historically significant as they fostered nationalism and suggested a new dance aesthetic. Modern dance in Busan during the liberation period set a foundation for modern dance activities that focused on creativity and education after the Korean War.

A Historical Reflection on Modern Dancer Choe Seunghui’s Collaboration with Japanese Imperialism+

Abstract
A Historical Reflection on Modern Dancer Choe Seunghui’s Collaboration with Japanese Imperialism+ ×

The purpose of this study is to investigate and reflect on the pro-Japanese activities of Choe Seunghui, also known as Sai Shoki (1911-1969) during the Japanese colonial period. I reviewed literature including the Dictionary of Pro-Japanese Figures and documents from the Investigation Committee on Pro-Japanese Collaborators, as well as newspaper articles. Choe Seunghui's pro-Japanese activities from 1937 to 1944 included: first, donating large sums of money to national defense funds and pro-Japanese organizations; second, performing numerous consolation shows for the Imperial Japanese Army; and third, receiving the National Cultural Award for her pro-Japanese work Muhon. Immediately after liberation, Choe exhibited a process of denial, acknowledgment, atonement, and justification regarding her pro-Japanese actions. The study discusses her own stance on her pro-Japanese activities, the positions of South and North Korea, and the perspectives of the South Korean dance community after the lifting of restrictions on her works, highlighting the gap between 'facts' and 'acknowledgment.' In conclusion, the study emphasizes the importance of remembering both Choe Seunghui's pro-Japanese misconduct and her contributions to dance. As Hannah Arendt insightfully noted, the phenomenon of 'thoughtlessness' leading to immense evil can occur not only in past instances like Nazism or pro-Japanese collaboration but also in contemporary contexts. This study aims to assist the dance community in existing as reflective individuals, aware of these historical lessons.
