pp.3-26
This study explores a case of hooded crane dance performance that deals with the ecological environmental characteristics. In addition to choreographing movements and gestures, the subject of hooded crane performance was featured with theatrical dialogues. The data collection included choreography notes, photos, videos, memos, dialogues, and performance pamphlets collected twice in Nantes and Suncheon city between May and August 2019. The qualitative analysis of the data were presented in the following ways.
First, by reinterpreting the story of the wounded hooded crane (Doori) found in Suncheon the performance expressed the ecological life and adversity of the hooded crane from the opposing viewpoints between the ecological environment and humans. Second, the reactions of spectators suggested that the hooded crane dancing performance turned out to make them feel more interested in nature and ecology. Third, due to the real story of Doori, the performance played a role in reminding the meaning of the performance (i.e., ecological sensibility) while the locals appreciated the story in a friendly way. This study indicated the parts to be supplemented in future performances and expandability by attempting performances in the ecological environment of Suncheon Bay (tidal flats, etc.).

Cultural Transformation of Yukhwadae
육화대(六花隊)의 문화변용
DOI:https://doi.org/10.26861/sddh.2021.61.97Asian Dance Journal
Vol.61
pp.97-121
This study examines the court and private versions of Yukhwadae (六花隊, Formation of six flowers) of the Joseon Dynasty in order to identify the pattern of coexistent and exchange of different cultures such as the royal court and the private sector. The development and changes of Yukhwadae illustrate a way of cultural transformation of dance.
To clarify the cultural transformation of Yukhwadae, this study analyzes the court's documentary records centering on Akhak Gyebum (Canon of Traditional Music) and the civilian literature records centering on the records of Gyobang Gayo (Song of Gyobang).
In Yukhwadae, which was transferred to the public from the courts revealed through literature, all ritual articles of Dangakjeongjae, such as jukganja (pole bearer), uimul (instrument), and changsa (song or chant), were eliminated, and the overall format was simplified. In addition, the content of dance was selectively accepted and reinterpreted, and costumes and music were transformed to be suitable for the private sector. Therefore, through this study, it was found that the strict form of the royal court Yukhwadae was exchanged with the private sector and transformed into a popular and diverse form suitable for civilian performances.
As such, it was found through the results of this study that different cultures were exchanged between the royal court and the private sector during the Joseon Dynasty. I suggest to consider dance from a perspective of cultural exchange, researching various dance cultural exchanges, and contributing to the development of dance.

The Relationship of Feminism and Choreographic Aesthetics in Contemporary Dance:
컨템퍼러리 댄스에서 페미니즘과 안무 미학의 관계: 메테 잉바르첸(Mette Ingvartsen)과 제레미 웨이드(Jeremy Wade)의 작업을 중심으로
DOI:https://doi.org/10.26861/sddh.2021.60.143Asian Dance Journal
Vol.60
pp.143-172
The purpose of this study explores the relationship between contemporary dance and feminism, and examines the influence of feminism on the aesthetic and practice of dance. This study was conducted through literature review and case study. I discussed the relationship between feminism and dance through the feminist’s movement and theory developed by Donna Haraway, Elizabeth Grosz, and Judith Butler.
The case analysis of this study, I choose two contemporary choreographers, Mette Ingvartsen and Jeremy Wade. Ingvartsen’s <69 Position> deals with the performances related to nudity and focuses on the socio-cultural environment in which the search for the relationship between politics and sexuality is mainly carried out over time. Ingvartsen’s feminist approach consists of exploring the relationship between the sexed body and society, capital, and politics. Wade propose the role of art as a sustainable practice through curation covering the political performance of queer, women, and people with disabilities in the project called “Future Clinic for Critical Care(FCCC).” Wade’s queering strategy means discovering social problems with minorities and driving political mobilization on them.
In this paper, I approach the knowledge of choreography in a way differing from the knowledge built on the patriarchal history. This research suggests that feminism is expected to exist as a source of undiscovered identities and opens up new possibilities for research and creation.

A Study on the Type of Site-Specific Dance Performance: Focusing on the Concept of Site of Post-Modern Dance
‘장소특정적 무용공연(Site-Specific Dance Performance)’의 유형연구: 포스트모던댄스의 장소 개념을 중심으로
DOI:https://doi.org/10.26861/sddh.2021.60.269Asian Dance Journal
Vol.60
pp.269-288
The purpose of this study is to classify the types of site-specific dance performance based on the characteristics of the site. To analyze the types, I examine articles, interviews, reviews, and internet sources about site-specific dance performance. In conclusion, the general site type is not just the dismantling of the boundary between everyday life and the arts but has the characteristic of a place that provides an opportunity to remind us of our ordinary life through the connection of the subject of work from the characteristics of the everyday venue. The site of specific meanings type is a museum with its own cultural and historical meaning, or the theme of the work is connected from the characteristics of a place where free access by the general public is not possible, and through this, an opportunity to create partnerships with local communities and institutions. The episodic site type is that the subject of the work is connected from the discarded and useless place, and through this, it provides an opportunity to reflect on the historical meaning of the past and concerns about the issues currently occurring at the performance venue. This type has the characteristics of a place that presents the possibility of regenerating the place again.
